Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang opened the upgraded Sikkim Guest House in Panjabari, Guwahati, on September 9. The project cost Rs 8 crore. Work included a vertical extension and a complete renovation of the structure.
The facility now houses 20 rooms. This total includes two VIP suites. Five flat units and two dormitories fill the new quarter block. Every room features air conditioning, televisions, and fresh furnishings. Tamang designed this building as a home away from home for officials, students, and patients. He said it serves as a "home away from home" for those traveling for work, education, or medical needs.
Tamang originally launched this site between 2004 and 2009. The structure first opened in 2011. Rising demand since 2019 forced this expansion. The Chief Minister urged visitors to protect the property. He also requested that staff serve authentic Sikkimese food to help travelers feel at ease.
During the visit, Tamang spoke with local students. He pushed them to organize a students association. The guest house will host their future events to save on private venue costs. He promised administrative help during emergencies. The Assam Chief Minister’s Office praised the move. They called the site a sign of strong cooperation between the two states.
