Imphal: Imphal West district is scrubbing 2.6 lakh voter records for errors. Officials launched the massive verification drive under the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They want clean data. District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar confirmed the push follows Election Commission of India guidelines.
Booth Level Officers are hitting the pavement now. Working under Electoral Registration Officers, these teams are conducting door-to-door checks to fix mistakes. They will hold hearings and issue formal notices before taking any administrative action. The work is tedious but necessary. Rajkumar noted most flags involve simple typos, spelling mistakes, or shifting surnames rather than major fraud.
The district is coordinating with the Manipur Chief Electoral Officer to wrap up the project quickly. "The majority of the discrepancies identified are of a routine nature and do not necessarily indicate irregularities," Rajkumar said during a Wednesday press briefing. He wants political parties, civil society groups, and community leaders to help spread the word and encourage cooperation.
The agency is also handling cases for Internally Displaced Persons. State officials processed 1,684 enumeration forms for displaced voters. Imphal West received 470 of those forms for immediate processing. Rajkumar promised his team will assist these voters to ensure nobody loses their right to cast a ballot.
