Guwahati: The Assam government will soon hire 130 veterinary doctors and 200 livestock field assistants. Bajali Guardian Minister Nilima Devi confirmed the plan on Saturday following a review meeting at the Bajali Deputy Commissioner office. The move aims to fortify the livestock sector and drive up milk production across the state.
Devi wants farmers to abandon traditional cattle-rearing methods. She favors scientific and commercial livestock farming instead. "The government was undertaking several initiatives to strengthen the livestock sector and increase milk production across the state," Devi stated. Officials are also rolling out a livestock insurance system to shield farmers from potential animal losses.
Construction crews will soon upgrade crumbling veterinary hospitals throughout Assam. The government has finished drafting beneficiary lists for the distribution of fish fingerlings and feed to eligible fish farmers. Officials believe these steps will boost the rural economy and create jobs for unemployed youth.
Before the briefing, Devi attended a session on the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. She then flagged off a pilgrimage for locals traveling from Bajali to the Somnath Temple in Gujarat. Bajali MLA Dharmeswar Roy and Deputy Commissioner Madhumita Bhagaboty attended the event.
