Kohima: Nagaland officials gathered in Chümoukedima on July 11 to review the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2026-27. The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying organized the session alongside Nagaland’s Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. The federal government allocated Rs 3,000 crore nationwide for this initiative. Nagaland falls into Category D.

Jagat Hazarika, Adviser for the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, noted the scheme offers performance-based incentives. It targets long-term loans and specific capital expenditures. Hazarika urged participants to share local issues to find practical fixes.

Secretary Angelina Tajen emphasized that livestock remains a vital economic pillar. She confirmed the state deployed 10 Joint Directors to supervise all 17 districts. This move aims to improve coordination and monitoring. Tajen noted that "the biggest challenge was completing the programme within the stipulated timeline."

The state faces major hurdles. Difficult terrain hampers operations. Poor connectivity and adverse weather complicate progress. Officials also struggled with OTP-based portal updates, insurance gaps, and dairy sector constraints. Tajen called for war-footing efficiency. She also pushed the Ministry to boost support for the piggery sector. She requested more focus on indigenous breeds like Nagal and Tenyivo. She further demanded better compensation and biosecurity to combat recurring African Swine Fever.

Technical sessions followed the primary discussions. Experts presented details on the National Digital Livestock Mission and the Smart Livestock Farming Project, Vision 2047. Visiting officials toured two dairy farms in Ura Village and Ward 10 afterward to inspect conditions firsthand.
