Peren farmers sharpen livestock and poultry skills at training event

Kohima: The District Management Unit of Peren, working under the Nagaland Forest Management Project, teamed up with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra to host a livestock and poultry training workshop. The event took place at the Council Hall in Peren Village on July 27. It focused on the theme of Nurturing Sustainable Growth for Progressive Future.

Dr. L. Babita Devi, the Chief Technical Officer for Animal Science at KVK Peren, led the instruction. She pushed farmers to track farm records to watch their profit margins. She explained the technical details of piggery management, including breed improvement through crossbreeding, care for piglets, and disease control. She told the group, "Farmers were advised to maintain biosecurity, especially during the disease prone months of February and March, and to isolate infected birds to prevent spread."

Devi also covered vaccination schedules, hygiene, and insurance options offered by the National Rural Livelihood Mission. She provided updates on the African Swine Fever vaccine. Regarding poultry, she outlined backyard breeds and proper nutritional management. Mateichile opened the session with a prayer, while Liangsi Niumai, Team Leader at FNGO C CERP, gave the welcome address. Field coordinator Mosonio Chachei led an interactive talk on local challenges. Khuni Newmai, the Convergence Expert, gathered feedback from the attendees. Suibamle, secretary of the Kesamsang SHG, gave the final vote of thanks, and SHG representative Heilam ended the day with a closing prayer.
