Kohima: The District Management Unit of the Nagaland Forest Management Project teamed up with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra to train Self-Help Group members. They met July 27 at the Peren village Council Hall. The event focused on scientific piggery and poultry management to grow rural incomes.
Dr. L. Babita Devi, Chief Technical Officer for Animal Science, led the technical sessions. She urged farmers to keep precise records to track spending. "Dr L Babita Devi, highlighted the importance of maintaining proper farm records to monitor expenditure and improve profitability."
Technical training covered pig breed improvement via crossbreeding and vaccination schedules. Dr. Devi detailed disease prevention and insurance options through the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission. She also discussed the new African Swine Fever vaccine. For poultry, the session addressed backyard breeds, nutrition, and strict biosecurity protocols. Farmers must isolate sick birds and stay alert during February and March.
Mateichile opened the day with prayer. Liangsi Niumai, team leader for FNGO C-CERP, provided the welcome address. Field Coordinator Mosonio Chachei guided the interactive portion. Convergence Expert Khuni Newmai oversaw feedback. Suibamle of the Kesamsang SHG gave the closing vote of thanks. Heilam offered the final prayer.
