Kohima: Faculty and students from the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, based in Jalukie, staged an animal health camp at Samziuram village on September 11. The team operated under the supervision of Dean Dr. I Shakuntala and lead researcher Dr. Tukheswar Chutia. Village chairman Jenggai Pamei hosted the group. A total of 55 people, including 40 farmers and 15 officials, attended the event.
Dr. A Palanisammi headed the proceedings and urged local producers to take advantage of the veterinary services. He emphasized the importance of the outreach by noting, "Healthy animal is the backbone of farmer's wealth" during his address. The group held a technical session covering livestock health, production, and reproduction. Dr. Keneisezo Kuotsu discussed common pig diseases in Nagaland, while Chutia presented on managing reproductive disorders in farm animals.
Staff checked 462 animals during the camp, including 297 poultry, 83 pigs, 37 cattle, 34 dogs, and 11 cats. The crew performed rabies vaccinations for dogs, deworming, pregnancy diagnoses, and reproductive examinations. They also handed out free medicines such as vitamins, antibiotics, antiseptics, mineral mixtures, and anthelmintics to farmers in need.
