Kohima: Peren district headquarters wrapped up its three-day Chega Gaadi and Lamsim Ngyi-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 on October 31. The event at Beikingpuichak drew government officials and tribal leaders to celebrate Zeliangrong heritage. Power Minister KG Kenye addressed the final day, urging the youth to balance Christian faith with indigenous values.

Kenye told the crowd, "Faith and culture should complement each other in shaping a morally upright and culturally conscious younger generation." He praised the community for maintaining peace and a bountiful harvest. Chief host and MLA Namri Nchang urged parents to teach children their mother tongue, noting a decline in dialect fluency among the Zeliangrong people. The final day featured cultural performances from Peren, Samziuram, Nzauna villages, and the Kachari tribe.

The second day, October 30, featured Forest Minister CL John as the special guest. He pushed for stronger bonds between Naga tribes and suggested inviting Zeliangrong communities from neighboring states to future events. He also praised Peren as a well-planned district and called for more tree planting. Peren Town Council chairperson Mireulung Sephe represented Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, while Yimkhiung Tribal Council President Throngso Yimkhiung called cultural diversity a strength. That day featured performances from Poilwa village and the Yimkhiung tribe.
