Kohima: Railway Protection Force officers rescued two 17-year-old boys in Ammor village on Sunday. The teens, identified as T. Nagampha and A. Tsemtun Kanyak, were stranded in a forest near the tracks between Walajah Road and Mukundarayapuram stations. It was past midnight.
Assistant sub-inspector P.R. Murali and head constable G. Gopalakrishnan spotted the pair during a patrol. K. Prabhu, inspector for RPF Katpadi, confirmed the rescue. "We got an alert from our counterpart in Nagaland that two teens were missing from their houses and were headed towards Kerala," Prabhu said.
The boys left home to find work in Kerala. They initially boarded a train but got off at Samalkot Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh to use the restroom. The train left without them. The pair bought new tickets and boarded a train heading to Thiruvananthapuram. Anxiety got the best of them. They jumped off the train near Katpadi and wandered into the woods.
Authorities notified the Child Welfare Committee immediately. Officials handed the boys to the Child Helpline at the Collectorate for safe custody. Work is underway to reunite the teens with their families.
