Kohima: The Angetyongpang Development Board and the Nagaland Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services rolled out a new livestock insurance scheme at the Mongsenyimti Village Community Hall. This initiative covers the entire 24 Angetyongpang Constituency.
Tongpang Ozukum, advisor to the Water Resources Department, attended the launch. He called the program a long awaited move for local residents. Ozukum promised to pay the premiums for the first phase to help farmers get started. He said the scheme would bring peace of mind and hope to the people.
Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Kuokehebi Gwirie explained the financial breakdown. Farmers pay 15 percent of the premium, while state and central governments cover the remaining 85 percent. Households can insure up to 10 cattle units per family. Gwirie praised the sponsorship, calling it a “big step.”
The scheme does not currently include coverage for African Swine Fever. Officials noted that a vaccine for the virus is still under development. I. Meyionen Jamir, a retired CIC officer and board member, delivered the welcome address. Imlitoshi, an Angetyongpang Development Board member, closed the session with a vote of thanks after a public discussion.
