Tinsukia Experts Launch Campaign Against Invasive Parthenium Weed

Guwahati: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Tinsukia just finished a week-long push to kill off invasive parthenium weed. The campaign ran from August 16 to 22. It targeted No. 2 Kopatoli, Dhola, and Lakhipathar villages. The plant is moving into farm fields fast. KVK head Hem Chandra Saikia led the charge to protect crops, livestock, and people.

Experts Priyanka Amonge and Sarode Boruah taught farmers how to spot and pull the weed. They warned that the plant triggers skin rashes and breathing issues. The plant ruins grazing land and chokes out food crops. "The programme also stressed community participation and timely intervention to contain the weed's spread and protect agricultural land, livestock and human health."

Timing matters. Farmers must rip out the weeds before they drop seeds. Crews handed out leaflets to help locals manage the growth. The group demands community action now. Everyone must clear the fields before this pest takes hold for good.
