Guwahati: Twenty-nine students from Assam Agricultural University opened an Agricultural Information Centre in Motapung, Tinsukia, on September 8. The facility aims to connect local growers with modern farming technologies and technical support. Roughly 80 farmers gathered for the launch.
Chief Scientist Dr. Raaj Kumar Kakoti, Professor Dr. Aparajita Bora, and District Agricultural Officer Rajit Dutta cut the ribbon. The center serves as a bridge for knowledge exchange. It gives students hands-on field experience while providing farmers with direct access to research expertise.
Rajit Dutta praised the students for their field demonstrations. He said, "Such initiatives would strengthen the exchange of knowledge between farmers and agricultural students, while also helping students gain practical experience and a deeper understanding of the agricultural sector."
Dr. Monuj Gogoi oversaw the distribution of 580 improved Khasi mandarin saplings to 58 farmers. Each recipient received ten plants to boost regional production and income. Dr. Aparajita Bora urged local growers to cooperate fully with the RAWE programme to ensure the initiative succeeds. The event drew several experts including Dr. Bijit Kumar Saud and Rubul Gogoi, alongside village heads Bakul Gogoi, Nireswar Chutia, and Girish Chutia.
