Morigaon Launches Push to Boost Pulse Production

Guwahati: Morigaon district is launching a fresh campaign to ramp up pulse production. The drive falls under the Aatmanirbharta in Pulses initiative, running through the 2026-27 crop cycles. Officials want farmers to ditch old methods for better yields.

District Commissioner Srishti Singh, IAS, chaired a meeting alongside District Development Commissioner Orpah Baglari, ACS, and Zilla Parishad CEO Satyajit Chetia, ACS. Agriculture Department staff and various line department officials also attended. The group approved a roadmap for the National Mission on Edible Oil-Oilseed, or NMEO-OS.

Training starts soon. The district will host special Kharif sessions focused on Pigeon Pea, also known as Arhar or Tur Dal. Experts will run block-level demonstrations across every ADO circle in Morigaon. These events give farmers direct exposure to modern, high-yield growing techniques.

Local leadership hopes this strategy hits a specific mark. The goal remains, "empowering farmers, enhancing agricultural output and contributing towards a self-reliant Morigaon." This hands-on guidance serves as the backbone of the district strategy to secure a stronger, more independent food supply.
