Tinsukia Officials Enforce Strict School Bag Weight Limits

Guwahati: Tinsukia district officials are cracking down on heavy school bags. They want kids safe. Education Department staff hit schools across the district on Wednesday, weighing bags to see if they follow the new government rules.

Heavy loads hurt children. The administration ordered both government and private schools to limit what students carry. The rules are firm. Schools must stop assigning unnecessary notebooks or textbooks that push bags over the legal limit.

The weight caps vary by grade level. Students in Classes I and II cannot carry more than 1.5 kg. Children in Classes III to V are limited to a range of 2 kg to 3 kg. Students in Classes VI and VII face a 4 kg ceiling. For those in Classes VIII and IX, the cap is 4.5 kg, while Class X students may carry up to 5 kg.

Officials said the restrictions aim to safeguard students and prevent the physical strain associated with carrying heavy loads. They noted that "keeping school bags within the prescribed limits is essential to protect students' health and prevent the physical strain associated with carrying excessively heavy bags."
