Guwahati: Tinsukia schools will end classes early starting August 12. The Regional Assam State School Education Board ordered the change to protect students from a relentless heatwave. Classes will now run from 8 am to 1:45 pm. This rule covers government, provincial, venture, and private institutions until officials decide conditions have returned to normal.
The Inspector of Schools issued the directive on August 11, 2026, following approval from the District Commissioner. Schools must follow strict safety protocols. They have to move morning assemblies into the shade and ensure every classroom has proper airflow. The board mandate requires schools to "ensure adequate ceiling fans, proper internal electrification and safe functioning of electrical switches."
Students get a break from the dress code. They no longer have to wear socks, shoes, or neckties to lower their body temperature. Teachers must keep watch for signs of heat stress and provide instant medical care if a child falls ill. Everyone is told to drink water often to stop dehydration.
Principals have a heavy workload. They must verify that toilets remain clean and inform parents, teachers, and staff about the schedule shifts immediately. This order sits on file with the Director of Secondary Education in Assam and the District Commissioner of Tinsukia.
