Guwahati: Hojai district officials slashed school hours to shield students from a brutal heatwave. The Inspector of Schools, HDC, Srimanta Sankardev Nagar, signed the order on August 14. Changes hit all government, provincialized, and private institutions immediately. Classes now start at 7:30 AM across the board.

Lower Primary students head home at 11:30 AM. Upper Primary pupils finish at 12:00 noon. High and Higher Secondary students wrap up their day at 12:30 PM. These rules stay in play until further notice. Officials might tweak the schedule again if the weather shifts.

The administration demanded specific safety steps. Morning assemblies must move inside or into the shade. Schools must fix broken fans and ensure clean drinking water is always on hand. Students should carry their own bottles to stay hydrated. Dress codes are relaxing to handle the humidity. The order states: "Students may also be allowed to avoid wearing blazers, waistcoats and ties during the prevailing heat."

Kids can swap shoes and socks for sandals if they feel uncomfortable. Staff must keep toilets clean and report any health emergencies to parents right away. Medical aid remains a priority if any student struggles in the heat.
