Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board, Division-I, pushed back its academic calendar for Class 10 and 12 students. Devastating floods and state-wide census work crippled the classroom schedule. Students fell behind. The board issued a mandatory notification on September 8, 2026, to fix the timeline.
Class 10 students will stay in class until February 22, 2027. Class 12 students continue until March 8, 2027. Officials needed this extra time to finish the curriculum. Without this move, the board feared missing the finish line for both grades.
"Therefore, it is decided that regular classes of class 10 may continue till 22 February, 2027 and for class 12 those may continue till 8th March, 2027 to complete the course contents," the board stated in its official notice. The board secretary circulated the order to the Education Minister, the School Education Department, and various school inspectors.
Board exams depend on these dates. The final schedules for the High School Leaving Certificate and the Higher Secondary Final Examination now hinge on this extension. Officials expect these adjusted classroom days to get students ready for their upcoming tests.

The board admitted the disruption made it impossible to hit their original targets. Officials previously expected to wrap up the Class 10 syllabus by the first week of February 2027 and the Class 12 material by February 28, 2027. The board noted there was every likelihood those deadlines would be missed without this emergency extension.
The official notification from the Secretary also went to the Director of Secondary Education and the Controllers of Examinations to ensure the paperwork and logistics catch up with the new classroom reality.
