Guwahati: Gauhati University and the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan Society signed a pact Thursday to drive entrepreneurship, innovation, and skill building across Assam. The deal mandates collaborative research and a work-linked academic program. Gauhati University Registrar Utpal Sarma and Joint Director Santanu Deuri signed the agreement at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
The university’s Department of Business Administration will run a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in New Venture Development and Management. This program serves 130 fellows sponsored by the state government. It pairs classroom lessons with field work and mentorship. Vice-Chancellor Nani Gopal Mahanta expects the move to bolster practical enterprise skills. "The collaboration would help bridge academic learning with practical enterprise development by equipping Chief Minister’s Fellows with professional skills in mentoring, business development and enterprise management," Mahanta said.
The partnership targets several goals. Teams will draft real-life case studies and build a Research and Development Centre focused on micro, small and medium enterprises. Academic coordinator Samir Sarkar noted that the work aims to spur job growth and push local innovation. The framework also covers curriculum design, knowledge creation, and intellectual property management to ensure the program succeeds long-term. University officials including Monoshree Mahanta, Chandan Talukdar, and Mrinal Jyoti Deka attended the signing ceremony alongside members of the CMAAA Society.
