Guwahati: The Bajali District Students’ Union wants a full review of new police station boundaries in Assam. An official notice recently moved 50 villages out of the Patacharkuchi Police Station jurisdiction. Thirty-five of those villages now fall under Barpeta Road Police Station, while 15 moved to the Howly Police Station. Officials also shifted 13 villages from the Sarnberbari Police Station in Barpeta LAC to the Pathsala Police Station within the Bajali LAC.
These changes sparked immediate anger. Local leadership fears the move threatens the administrative identity of their district. Parshwa Patgiri, General Secretary of the Bajali District Students’ Union, lashed out at the decision. "Don’t play with the emotions of the people of Bajali," he said.
The union demands clear demarcation of district boundaries. They argue that sudden administrative shifts create confusion and unnecessary inconvenience. Authorities must protect the interests of the local population, the group claims. They are pushing for an immediate reversal of the boundary adjustments.
