Kohima: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) officials met in Kohima on September 25 to assess the wreckage left by the monsoon. DC B. Henok Buchem chaired the session at his office. The group evaluated damaged roads, infrastructure, and active relief efforts.
The Public Works Department submitted repair proposals to state and central leaders. Crews plan to start bituminous work from Jotsoma Bypass to Lerie Gate once the weather clears. Other trouble spots include the Kigwema-Chakhabama stretch and a 100-metre section near Zaru Bridge. Repairs for these sites remain pending approval. The NHIDCL promised work on the sinking Phesama road starting Monday. They expect the route to be motorable by late November.
Traffic police noted that the sinking T. Khel Model Road has choked the town with congestion. They also flagged potholes near the BSF camp for immediate attention. The Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department tracked six cases of African Swine Fever. Officials stated, "ASF vaccines are under trial," while urging farmers to use photographs for insurance verification.
Wildlife threats persist. Forest officials warned of wild elephant movement and reported wild boars destroying crops in Kidima village. Home Guards and Civil Defence confirmed their personnel are ready for fire-related emergencies. Meanwhile, the PHED reported water supply issues at the Aradura tank. The Power Department must address a high-tension line problem in Jakhama. Departments will now update the District Disaster Management Plan and the India Disaster Resource Network.
