Kohima: Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma and Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo inspected landslide sites on NH 2 and NH 702 this Thursday. A massive slide between Chuchuyimlang and Unger villages destroyed 100 metres of road and damaged another 200 metres. This highway serves as the primary supply route for Mokokchung, Longleng, Zunheboto, and Tuensang. Heavy rains and the scale of the destruction mean full repairs will likely take months.
The officials met with local village council members to discuss the wreckage. Light vehicles now use a bypass road, but officials need more space for a permanent fix. The Deputy Commissioner issued a clear request to stakeholders: "The DC appealed to village councils and landowners to donate land so that PWD (NH) can enlarge the road for safer passage."
Damage also hit NH 702, which connects Changtongya town to Longleng and Tuensang. Two homes are completely destroyed, while others suffered partial damage. The inspection team included the SDO (C) of Changtongya, the EACs of Chuchuyimlang and Mokokchung, the Executive Engineer of PWD (NH) Mokokchung, and the SDO of PWD (NH) Changtongya. The DC and SP promised the affected families that the government would provide support.
