Kohima: The Kohima District Congress Committee wants the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation to fix the NH-2 stretch at Phesama village right now. Landslides from heavy rain destroyed the road in June. It remains cut off. The total lack of progress is a disaster for everyone who needs that route.
KDCC president Ketseiyie Mere says the gridlock hits students the hardest. Families now pay 500 rupees per round trip for taxis because the detour is too steep for buses. This drains bank accounts. It also wrecks academic attendance. The committee notes that the Phesama Village Council, the Southern Angami Public Organisation, and local MLAs have repeatedly pushed for repairs. No physical work has started yet.
This road is a lifeline for Southern Angami villages and neighboring Manipur. It impacts trade, healthcare, and daily survival. The committee wants a time-bound repair plan to make the highway motorable again. They also want the state government and the deputy chief minister to provide subsidized buses or government transport for stranded students until the work finishes. As the KDCC stated, "Students should not have to pay the price for administrative and infrastructural delays."
