Shillong: The Education Department in Shillong axed its controversial August 12 notification on Thursday. The order previously allowed state pay scale vacancies to be filled through the Structured Pay Framework. Officials acted immediately to kill the policy following widespread fury from the teaching community. Education Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri stated the original move caused “apprehensions and confusion” regarding job security and the status of the Deficit System.
The department insists no government or deficit teacher posts were ever on the chopping block. The SPF was intended as a stopgap to handle immediate staffing needs through the State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya until the 2027-28 school year. Sanctioned posts were meant to stay intact throughout that duration. The government dumped the plan to ensure administrative certainty and stop further misunderstandings.
The Voice of the People Party claimed the reversal as a victory for its campaign against the framework. Party leaders gave credit to president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit for his role in the fight. They view this as a win for the state education system. The party expects officials to protect teacher welfare and keep sanctioned posts secure moving forward.
