Guwahati: Bir Lachit Sena members hit the Morigaon district office on Monday, September 28. They handed a formal memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The group wants stronger legal walls around indigenous land. District president Hitesh Deka and chief organising secretary Krishna Patar signed the document. They submitted the paperwork through the local district commissioner.
The group’s central committee ordered the move. They demand an immediate stop to illegal land transfers. Specifically, they want to block outsiders from grabbing property legally reserved for indigenous residents. The list of grievances covers Protected Belt and Block areas alongside Tribal Belt and Block zones. They also called for the government to hand out available public land to landless locals.
The organization is pushing for new administrative rules to stop illegal occupations. These steps are vital. "The demands were aimed at ensuring that the land rights of indigenous people were adequately protected," the group stated. Biswajit Bora, Ratul Nath, Pramod Das, Chunu Das, and Chintu Saikia attended the event to show support.
