Agartala: Tripura is handing out free flour, sugar, and semolina to 92,000 ration cardholder families. The state launched the program to boost support for the upcoming Sharadotsav and Diwali celebrations. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury kicked off the initiative at Fair Price Shop No. 61 near Pragati Vidyalaya in Agartala.

Beneficiaries get two kilograms of flour, one kilogram of sugar, and 500 grams of semolina. The state expects to spend ₹9 crore on the project. While flour and sugar go to all eligible cardholders, semolina is reserved for families in the Antyodaya, Priority, and Below Poverty Line categories. It is a massive undertaking.

Chowdhury noted the government previously ran similar welfare drives for Eid-ul-Fitr. He credited Chief Minister Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy for their backing. The minister also thanked his department staff. "The initiative reflects the state government's commitment to public welfare and its efforts to support families during major festivals," Chowdhury stated. Officials expect to wrap up the distribution across the state before the holidays begin.
