Imphal: The Magulong Na Students Union is fed up. They are calling out a massive six-year delay on the Katang-Magulong road project in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. Work on the 12.20-km stretch, designated under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana as Package MN07177 Phase XI, missed its September 12, 2020 deadline by a wide margin.
Construction sits in limbo. Essential tasks like blacktopping, building retaining walls, installing culverts, and finishing drainage work remain untouched. The road is a mess. Vegetation chokes the route, while jagged rocks and rough patches make the daily commute a nightmare for people living in the Tousem subdivision’s Magulong village.
The union wants results fast. They are pushing officials to rush the remaining work and provide extra cash if necessary to get the job done by December 2026. The union stated, "The union warned that it would launch a democratic agitation if the authorities and contractor failed to address the concerns."
Water infrastructure is also under fire. The union is questioning the status of a Jal Jeevan Mission project funded by the New Development Bank. A completion report exists for the water work, but the union says pipelines and other mandatory items are still missing. They demand a site inspection and joint verification with village authorities before anyone signs off on a completion certificate.
