Guwahati: Manipur police arrested two people and confiscated 900 grams of suspected brown sugar in the Churachandpur district. Officers made the bust on October 13 following a tip. They first swarmed Khupgou village to detain 37-year-old Chingmuanchin Samte. She had 45 soap cases stuffed with the illicit narcotics on her person.

Interrogations quickly turned up a lead. Samte pointed police toward her alleged supplier, 33-year-old Paumuonthang Tungnung. Officers tracked Tungnung to Boljol village and took the Myanmar national into custody. Authorities booked the pair at the Churachandpur Police Station. The charges include violations of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Officials said, "Further details regarding the investigation were not provided in the statement."
