Imphal: Narcotics Control Bureau agents captured a Myanmar-based drug kingpin in Manipur on July 22. They found Nengzatuan, also known as Tuanpi, hiding at Hotel Venus in Churachandpur. Tuanpi lives in Haichin, Chin State. His arrest marks a major victory against an international drug pipeline.
The agency claims Tuanpi headed a syndicate moving methamphetamine and heroin through Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, and Tripura. These drugs eventually reach buyers across India and Bangladesh. He is a primary suspect in three NCB cases involving 28.22 kg of methamphetamine and 1.278 kg of heroin. Those drugs alone carry a value over 25 crore. He faces seven additional cases filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and local police units in Churachandpur and Singngat.
Authorities have systematically dismantled this supply chain over several months. Previous operations led to the arrests of Abdullah Ahmed, Lalthlamuong Pulamte, Nengultinkhum Hrangngul, and Paominlen Munlo. NCB records also show the captures of Lalhmingsanga in March 2026 and Thancintuang in May 2026. The syndicate is tied to seized assets and narcotics worth more than 53 crore. NCB investigators described the operation as a complex chain of suppliers and financial handlers.
Other enforcement actions occurred on the same day. Near Mantripukhri Bazar, security forces seized 3.66 kg of opium and arrested Anil Das, Roshan Basnet, and Goma Karki. Additionally, police caught Tinnei Thadou in the Songja Khopi village area with 1.6 kg of brown sugar. Agencies state, "The arrest of Nengzatuan follows the earlier arrests of Lalhmingsanga in March 2026 and Thancintuang alias Chintuang alias Tluanga in May 2026 as part of the NCB's ongoing crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking in the Northeast." The state continues its aggressive anti-narcotics campaign.
