Imphal: The Zeliangrong Baudi issued a stern plea for restraint on September 16. The group wants an end to the brutal violence gripping the hills of Manipur. Recent attacks in Chawangkining, Kaimai, Tollen, Longpi, Khedaghar, and Leisangphai have shattered community trust and sparked widespread fear.
Violence reached a breaking point on September 13. Four Kuki civilians died in separate strikes at Tollen in Tamenglong district and Longpi in Noney district. Two more Kuki women were killed on September 15 at Leisangphai in Tamenglong, where attackers also torched farmhouses. Reports indicate Naga homes in Khedaghar were also set on fire during this volatile period.
The Baudi demanded that armed groups stop targeting civilians and settlements immediately. They want the Centre and the Manipur government to beef up security in remote areas before more blood spills. Investigators must conduct impartial probes into every killing and arson case to ensure justice. "Grief must not become vengeance; an individual’s crime must never justify collective punishment," the organisation stated.
Community leaders, church officials, and student groups must now douse the flames of conflict. The Baudi warned against spreading rumors or inflaming tensions. They urged all parties to choose peace over retaliation to prevent further displacement. Vulnerable people deserve to live without the constant shadow of violence.
