Imphal: Security forces captured three active KYKL militants and one UNLF (K) member during a sweep across Manipur on September 4. Police conducted separate operations to dismantle local insurgent activity and drug distribution networks.
A team from the Commando Unit in Imphal East moved on Awang Leikinthabi in Imphal West. They worked alongside the 19 Garhwal Rifles and 31 Assam Rifles. The raid netted Ahanthem Puninkanta Singh, 45, Potsangbam Niranjan Singh, 30, and Mohen Takhellambam, 31. Officers seized four No. 36 hand grenades and four detonators. They also took three mobile phones and two scooters as evidence.
The Manipur Police stated on social media, "On 04.09.2026, based on reliable intelligence corroborated by 19 Garhwal Rifles and 31 AR, CDO/Imphal East arrested three active cadres of KYKL from Awang Leikinthabi, Imphal West."
In a second hit, the Imphal West Commando Unit struck a residence in Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi. Working with the 33 Assam Rifles, they arrested 32-year-old Mayengbam Chingkhomba Meitei. Police linked the UNLF (K) member to local extortion schemes.
Separately, Heingang police and Imphal East Commandos searched a property at Khabeisoi Maning Leikai. They detained a woman named Nurbanu, alias Rani. The search yielded 400 Nitrapal-10 tablets, 59 vials of suspected heroin, and Rs 14,100 in cash. Detectives continue to build their cases against all five individuals.
