Road accident and river recovery mark tragic day in Manipur

Imphal: A speeding car killed two women in Imphal West on September 16. The accident happened on National Highway 102 at Kha Naorem Leikai. 75-year-old Kharibam Bino and 33-year-old Kharibam Sophia were walking home when a Maruti 800 struck them from behind. Both victims lived in the area. Bino died when she reached the hospital. Sophia passed away later during treatment.

Police from the Singjamei station have registered a case regarding the collision. The driver fled the scene. Officers moved both bodies to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary to undergo an autopsy. As one official noted, "Police deposited both bodies at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) mortuary for autopsy."

Separately, police pulled a body from the Imphal River on the same day. The victim was 19-year-old Md Ariyan of Lilong Ayang Leikai. He vanished on September 14. Searchers found him at Uchiwa Nasto around 12:30 am Wednesday. Authorities from the Mayang Imphal station handled the recovery. They also sent his remains to the RIMS morgue for a post-mortem examination.
