Myanmar National Nabbed in Mizoram with Meth Haul

Aizawl: Authorities arrested 20-year-old Kamkimsiang on September 17 for smuggling methamphetamine. He hails from Bukphir village in Myanmar’s Chin State. Police caught him on Zote-Bulfek Road in Mizoram’s Champhai district. A joint task force involving the Excise and Narcotics Department, Assam Rifles, and a central intelligence agency executed the bust. They grabbed 50,500 tablets weighing 5.5 kg. Kamkimsiang now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

This bust follows massive narcotics seizures across the border region. Security teams recently hit neighboring states for Rs 425 crore in illegal goods. In Assam’s Hailakandi district, officials landed the state's biggest haul ever, seizing drugs valued at Rs 327 crore and arresting one person. Assam Rifles, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, and local police worked together on that raid. Tripura agencies also seized 12.26 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 98 crore across Khowai district and Panisagar. They arrested two Assam residents during the operation.

Regional agencies have stepped up patrols. "The latest arrests and seizures come amid intensified operations by security and narcotics agencies along the Northeast’s international borders and key trafficking routes," officials said. The push aims to shut down smuggling paths into the region.
