Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized 72.51 kg of methamphetamine on August 1. The haul is worth Rs 58.01 crore. It stands as the largest drug bust in Saitual district history. Officers found the stash Friday during a routine vehicle check at Kualmawi in Keifang. A special team from the Saitual District Executive Force stopped a truck coming from Manipur toward Aizawl. The site was just two kilometres south of the local police station.
The driver ditched the truck and bolted into the woods. Police searched the rig. They found 61 bundles of tablets hidden in a fake cavity above the driver cabin. Methamphetamine is a banned substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Locals often call the tablets Yaba or the "crazy drug."
Officers detained two passengers, Kaidul Islam Laskar, 21, and Rafik Uddin Barbhuiya, 32. Both men live in the Hailakandi district of Assam. Investigators tracked the intended recipient to Bairabi in Kolasib district. Police arrested Vanlallawmi, 39, with help from local Kolasib authorities. The Saitual Police Station has filed a case under the NDPS Act. Detectives are still chasing other members of this interstate trafficking network.
