Aizawl: Mizoram Police netted narcotics valued at Rs 23.23 crore over four days. Officers arrested 11 people in a string of raids. Police filed five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The biggest bust hit on Tuesday. A joint team from the CID Special Branch and Kolasib District Executive Force stopped a shipment at Khamrang village. They seized 15 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine tablets. The stash holds 15 lakh tablets worth Rs 12 crore. Four locals from Kolasib district now face charges.
Aizawl district saw two major hits on the same day. The CID raided the New Look Restaurant at Chanmari Kawn, seizing 4.770 kilograms of meth worth Rs 3.82 crore. Three men from Sribhumi district, Assam, went to jail. Later, officers nabbed 9.016 kilograms of meth near Delhi Dhaba at Thuampui. The haul is worth Rs 7.21 crore. Police caught 29-year-old Malsawmtluanga of Zokhawthar driving the vehicle.
Other operations targeted heroin. Special Narcotics Police and Assam Rifles grabbed 21.330 grams of heroin at Khatla, worth Rs 5 lakh. One suspect from Khawzawl district was arrested. In Lunglei district, a joint squad of the District Special Branch and Border Security Force found 71.59 grams of heroin hidden in six soap cases at Sethlun. They arrested two people for the stash, valued at Rs 14.31 lakh.
A senior official confirmed the focus remains on the supply chain. "Investigations are underway to trace the source of the contraband, identify the trafficking network and determine the involvement of other individuals," the officer said.
