Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized 72.514 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 58.01 crore on Friday. This hit marks the largest drug bust in Saitual district history. Officers from the Saitual District Executive Force spotted a suspicious truck, registration number MZ-05 A-8053, during routine checks at Kualmawi in Keifang. The vehicle was heading toward Aizawl from Manipur, stopped two kilometres south of the local police station.
The driver bolted. He ran into the woods before police could make an arrest. Officers searched the truck and found 61 bundles of the drug. These were hidden inside a specially constructed cavity above the driver's cabin. Methamphetamine is illegal under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police often call the substance Yaba or the crazy drug.
Two passengers were arrested on the spot. They are Kaidul Islam Laskar, 21, and Rafik Uddin Barbhuiya, 32. Both men live in Pakua Punji Bhaibonti, located in Assam's Hailakandi district. Police later tracked down the alleged recipient of the shipment. Vanlallawmi, 39, was arrested in Bairabi, Kolasib district. Local law enforcement said, "Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the interstate drug trafficking network." The search for the missing driver continues.
