Imphal: Dengue is tearing through Churachandpur. Health officials confirmed 3,713 infections and nine deaths between April 1 and October 20, 2026. The numbers represent a brutal jump from the 332 total cases recorded throughout 2025. Infections climbed rapidly from 750 cases and two deaths in late August.

District Hospital Medical Superintendent Sania Monica confirmed the facility admitted 910 patients to its medicine and paediatric wards during this span. Despite the surge, the hospital maintains a 99.67 percent recovery rate. Only four of the nine deaths are verified by ELISA testing. The other five remain under review. Sania Monica noted, "The deceased had underlying health conditions, including liver and kidney diseases and compromised immune systems."

Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, Chief Medical Officer Henkhoneng Mate, and Monica briefed the public on the response. The hospital recently renewed its blood centre licence after it lapsed in 2023. Since then, the center has supplied 126 units of fresh blood to both public and private facilities. Mobile medical teams now roam the district to enforce treatment protocols and monitor spread.
