Shillong: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad is backing Union Home Minister Amit Shah on his vow to install a Uniform Civil Code across all NDA-ruled states by 2029. Shah made the announcement Sunday, promising to roll out the code in 21 states through a phased approach. The government has already set the wheels in motion in several regions, with three more states currently drafting their own versions.
VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal voiced his approval on X this Monday. He insisted the law acts as a fix for long-standing gender bias. Bansal noted: "This decision will prove to be a milestone in the development of women and child rights by eliminating the remaining gender inequality and discrimination in India."
The group claims this change will finally grant equal rights to groups left out for 75 years. They argue the code liberates women and children from the control of separatists and fundamentalists. Now, the VHP is turning its sights on states run by opposition parties. Bansal urged non-BJP governments to adopt the code instead of waiting for the federal alliance to force their hand.
