Shillong: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed claims that the Union government is afraid of the opposition. He pointed to recent BJP victories in Assam and West Bengal bypolls as proof that Prime Minister Narendra Modi retains widespread voter support. The results show the public backs the party despite intense political criticism.
Sarma spoke to reporters on Saturday in Haridwar. He mocked the idea that the ruling party feels intimidated. "We have won bypolls in West Bengal as well as Assam. The number of people who have come to support PM Modi is many times greater than those who came to Delhi," he said. He insisted that electoral success serves as the true metric of governance.
The Chief Minister also took aim at the opposition's habit of approaching constitutional authorities like President Droupadi Murmu or the Supreme Court. He argued that these meetings are routine, not signs of a political crisis. Thousands of citizens reach out to the courts daily, and the President meets many people regularly. To Sarma, the opposition's tactics are merely failed attempts to weaken the government. The people know the truth, he said, and they stand with the Prime Minister.
