Shillong: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma blasted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday. Sarma claims the Leader of the Opposition lost his mental balance after repeated poll losses in West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. He called the Congress leader a nutcase. The harsh rhetoric arrives as the BJP and Congress lock horns over national security, border issues with China, and parliamentary conduct.
Gandhi recently alleged that Chinese forces blocked Indian patrols in Arunachal Pradesh. The government rejected that charge. Tensions also spiked following Gandhi’s appearance at the Rachnatmak Congress National Convention in Delhi. Gandhi mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomacy, characterizing it as merely hugging foreign leaders. This joke triggered a wave of condemnation from the BJP and the Vishva Hindu Parishad.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticized the conduct as theatrics, not politics. Singh noted that the LoP post was previously held by figures like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani. He argued that Gandhi’s actions brought shame to the office. “I think he has lost his mental balance. After the defeat in the elections in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, LoP Rahul Gandhi has become a nutcase,” Sarma remarked. Singh further claimed Gandhi relies on the agenda of George Soros to attack India’s interests.
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Congress of using reprehensible language following their disruptive behavior in Parliament. VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the party had fallen to a new low. BJP leader Rohan Gupta added that such personal attacks have no place in political discourse. Sarma also slammed Gandhi for an exchange involving Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, accusing Congress of disrespecting women and damaging foreign relations. The verbal brawl shows no signs of cooling down.
