Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined over 500 BJP workers at the state headquarters in Dispur on August 30. They gathered to hear the 137th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast. State party president Dilip Saikia attended a separate session at Booth No. 169 in the New Guwahati Assembly Constituency. BJP officials confirmed that party members tuned in at more than 25,000 booths across 433 mandals within 39 organisational districts.
Modi tackled a broad agenda. He covered drug prevention, women’s empowerment, technology, history, cleanliness, innovation, and agriculture. The Prime Minister pointed to the Pradhan Mantri SwaNidhi Scheme as a key success. He noted that over 46 per cent of its beneficiaries are women who now run small businesses. He also praised the rise of Indian women in space science, specifically citing the Mission ShaktiSat initiative and International Space Science Day.
The Prime Minister took time to honor Assam’s past. He mentioned a website created by a Mumbai-based engineer that details the 600-year reign of the Ahom dynasty. He also pointed to Vaishali Puro from Nagaland’s Phek district as a model for self-reliance. Puro successfully turned floriculture into a business that exports flowers across the country.
Modi wrapped up by pushing for domestic commerce ahead of the festive season and Vishwakarma Puja. He urged citizens to buy Indian-made goods. He reiterated his long-standing call for the country to be "Vocal for Local."
