Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party tapped former Bihar Health and Law Minister Mangal Pandey to lead its Assam operations. Party president Nitin Nabin announced the move Wednesday as part of a sweeping organizational reshuffle covering every state and eight Union territories. Nagaland MP Phangnon Konyak and veteran leader Manoj Tigga will serve alongside him as co-in-charges.
Pandey brings a deep resume to the role. He led the Bihar BJP from 2013 to 2017 and held a seat in the Bihar Legislative Council since May 2012. The state unit cheered the news on social media. The Assam BJP stated, "Extending best wishes and a warm welcome to senior party leader Shri Mangal Pandey, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of BJP Assam Pradesh in-charge, and to Smt. Phangnon Konyak and Shri Manoj Tigga, who have been appointed as co-in-charges by the Hon'ble National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shri Nitin Nabin."
The central leadership also juggled other key portfolios. National general secretary Smriti Irani will now handle Haryana and Chhattisgarh. Party vice-president Ram Madhav takes responsibility for Tamil Nadu. Internal communications also saw a shift. Anil Baluni will coordinate the party's media and social media departments. Ashish Usha Agrawal moves up to become the national media department convenor, taking over a role previously held by Baluni.
