Guwahati: The Assam BJP says its track record on infrastructure and jobs proves its success. On November 3, party media panelist Dharmakanta Gogoi pointed to the approved extension of the Northern Bullet Train Corridor to Guwahati. This rail line will link the city to Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, and Siliguri. The trip from Delhi to Guwahati should take under eight hours. The party also touted the Vande Bharat Express running between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri and Rs 11,486 crore allocated to the Northeast Frontier Railway.
Big projects keep coming. The list includes the Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, a Brahmaputra underwater tunnel, the Numaligarh Bio-Ethanol Project, and a high-speed corridor to Silchar. The state government wants a USD 30-billion economy. It is building district land banks to lure investors. Gogoi said, "The state government was working towards its target of developing Assam into a USD 30-billion economy."
Officials claim they provided 1.64 lakh government jobs in five years. They want two lakh more. Schools and education see investment too. The state set up 75 model schools, 21 model residential schools in tea garden regions, and 14 polytechnic centers. They also modernized 55 industrial training institutes. The PM-POSHAN program now feeds 37.47 lakh children while the Nijut Moina scheme continues to roll out.
Healthcare goals remain aggressive. Plans include a medical college for every district and upgrades to 4,000 health sub-centres. The government proposed a Rs 50,000 crore investment for the health sector. Urban development includes master plans for 102 towns and GIS mapping in 74. Officials have spent Rs 4,000 crore on drinking water and waste management. They also issued land pattas to tea garden workers and bolstered land protections in autonomous council areas.
