Dilip Saikia Targets Silchar Infrastructure Overhaul

Guwahati: Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia is moving to fix Silchar. He wants to overhaul waterlogging, waste management, and traffic congestion across the city. The BJP leader confirmed his party filed 249 nominations for the 42 wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation. His agenda targets basic civic infrastructure improvements for local residents.

Flood control is a top priority. Saikia plans to install pumping stations in Shillong Patti, Ambika Patti, Malugram, Tarapur, Rangirkhari, Sonai Road, Link Road, Saratpally, and Bilpar. He aims to deepen the Rangirkhal, Baris Canal, and Langai Canal, linking them to the Ghagra and Barak rivers. Every ward will get covered RCC drains, alongside a strict maintenance schedule. He said, "The BJP has received 249 nominations for the 42 wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation."

Waste collection will go digital. The plan mandates 100 per cent door-to-door pickup with source segregation and QR code monitoring. To clear the streets, the city will build multi-storey parking facilities, set up dedicated e-rickshaw stands, and add streetlights, footpaths, and CCTV cameras. Saikia also promised skill development centres and safer public spaces for women, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Residents will soon access civic services through a new centre in every ward. During the event, 50 workers from the Trinamool Congress officially joined the BJP.
