Residents Block Silchar-Kalain Road Over Poor Conditions

Guwahati: Locals choked the Silchar-Kalain road at Bhangarpar Tiniali on November 7. They wanted action. The protest started at 12 pm and lasted nearly an hour, stranding traffic on both sides of the block. Farida Parveen Laskar, a member of the Bhuvaneshwar Nagar-Srikona Zilla Parishad, led the charge against the state of the road.

Commuters, students, and emergency medical vehicles hit trouble daily because of the heavy damage. Residents claim they have filed complaints for ages with no results. The situation turned tense enough that Dimu Choudhury, the Bhangarpar Police Outpost in-charge, arrived with his team to calm the crowd.

Jacob Rahman, the Sub-Divisional Officer for the Barkhola-Katigorah Territorial Road Division, eventually showed up to negotiate. Laskar handed him a formal memorandum. She set a firm 15-day deadline for the government to fix the potholes and pavement. Rahman promised to escalate the issue to his bosses. He told the group, "The matter would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and necessary steps would be taken." The crowd cleared the road after hearing his promise.
