Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma campaigned in Silchar on September 30. He wants voters to back NDA candidates in the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections. The BJP already locked up two seats without a fight. Now, they are chasing the remaining 40. Sarma claims the party was already on track for 30 to 35 wins. He wants more. He told the crowd, "BJP would have anyway won 30-35 seats. But I urge your support in ensuring that it is a clean sweep for us."

Sarma pledged to fix the region by upgrading road, rail, and air links. His plan includes a super-express corridor from Silchar to Siliguri through Guwahati. He also cited a new railway line to avoid Dima Hasao and a greenfield airport planned for Doloo. He claims this infrastructure will trigger local growth. "Once connectivity is improved, automatic transformation will happen," he said. The government also intends to fund the municipal body directly for minor projects. Residents can expect better roads, a new water system, and security cameras to fight crime.

The Chief Minister looked back at the April Assembly elections. The NDA held power by taking 102 of 126 seats. He is already planning ahead. He wants the party to win every single seat by the 2031 elections. The polls for the Silchar Municipal Corporation open October 3 from 7.30 am to 4 pm. Officials plan to count the votes on October 6. He promised good governance to the voters. "We will fulfil all our promises, and I can assure you of development and good governance," Sarma said.
