Guwahati: Assam’s cabinet adopted 75 resolutions on October 9 to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the 90-minute session. They credited Modi’s leadership for massive gains in state infrastructure and peace. Sarma said, "Peace created the conditions for development, connectivity opened doors to opportunity, industry and investment created new economic possibilities, and healthcare and education strengthened human capabilities."
The resolutions cataloged a list of major projects. Key items include the Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor plant at Jagiroad and the Rs 28,000-crore expansion of the Numaligarh Refinery. The cabinet noted the Rs 18,662-crore Gohpur-Numaligarh tunnel, the Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga elevated corridor, and the Silchar-Saurashtra high-speed corridor. Industrial plans also feature the Namrup-IV ammonia-urea complex, a bamboo-based bioethanol plant, and the 718-km Barauni-Guwahati gas pipeline. Investment commitments from Advantage Assam 2.0 topped Rs 5 lakh crore.
Regional stability remains a focal point. Agreements with Bodo, Karbi, Adivasi, and ULFA groups ended years of conflict. New institutions like AIIMS Guwahati and IIM Guwahati reflect shifting priorities. Officials also cheered the 2024 UNESCO status for Charaideo Moidams and Classical Language status for Assamese. Modi has visited the state 36 times since 2014.
The cabinet meeting shared the day with a somber tribute. Sarma remembered Ratan Tata on his death anniversary, October 9. Tata died at age 86. The industrialist was a key partner in building 17 cancer hospitals across the state. Sarma confirmed the semiconductor facility at Jagiroad should start operations by late 2026. The surrounding township now bears the name Ratan Tata Electronics City to honor his vision.
