Guwahati: The National Health Mission of Assam packed 76 children off to top-tier hospitals across India this week. These kids suffer from Congenital Heart Disease. They need specialized care immediately. The state government is paying for the surgery, travel, and food for both the patients and their guardians.
The move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday. Medical officials confirmed they are shipping the children to cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru for treatment. Dr. Babul Bezbaruah, head of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, confirmed the rollout. "76 CHD patients were being sent to different medical institutions for treatment," he said.
This initiative is not new. The state government launched its Congenital Heart Disease programme on July 1, 2010. Since then, the scheme has helped 14,726 patients get well. Dr. Devajit Choudhury, Superintendent of GMCH, noted that more than 14,500 children have successfully finished their treatments since the program started. The state remains committed to keeping the effort alive for future patients.
