Police Seize 40 Cattle in Assam Smuggling Crackdown

Guwahati: Assam police recovered 40 cattle and seized multiple vehicles during a three-day crackdown on smuggling networks in the Kamrup district. The operation hit the Boko area hard. Officers acted on intelligence to shut down illegal transit routes.

On September 9, Boko police moved into the Bandapara area. They seized a Mahindra pickup and three motorcycles while recovering 19 cattle. Nobody was caught at the scene. The suspects escaped before the team arrived.

A second strike occurred in the early hours of September 11. Hahim Police Outpost personnel intercepted a truck near Mauman village. Local youths assisted the police with the raid. Inside the truck, registration AS-01-TC-9383, officers found 21 cattle destined for Meghalaya. Police arrested the driver, Saiful Islam, alongside Rafikul Hasan and Salimuddin. Authorities sent the trio to judicial custody. "Police have intensified surveillance along suspected routes used for the transportation of cattle as part of efforts to curb illegal smuggling activities in the region."

Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani supervised the Boko station efforts. Atul Deka led the Hahim outpost team. The recovered animals now reside in a gaushala. Smugglers often use West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya to push livestock toward Bangladesh. Police maintain a tight grip on these transit points to stop the flow.
