SDRF Recovers Body of Drowned Teen from Umtru River

Shillong: State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovery teams pulled the body of 19-year-old Bishnu Gosh from the Umtru River on Monday. Gosh lived in Raja Bagan and reportedly drowned on Sunday. He was two kilometres from where he went under.

Byrnihat police requested the recovery mission. A squad from the 1st SDRF Battalion arrived from Mawdiangdiang on Monday morning to scour the river. They deployed a Rigid Inflatable Boat and used specialized gear to scan the surface. Divers eventually went underwater to locate the victim.

The recovery concluded with the team handing the body to Byrnihat police. Family members stood by as officials made the transfer. The operation marks a grim end to a search that local authorities described as an "intensive search operation."
