Guwahati: Assam GST Intelligence and Enforcement Unit agents caught Trishna Barman in Siliguri. She is a native of Barama in the Baksa district. The arrest follows a multi-state probe into a 25 crore fake Input Tax Credit racket. She holds an MBA from Bangalore. She spent days dodging investigators before her capture at a local hotel.
The operation involved the GIEU and the Special Task Force of Assam Police, led by Monuj Kr Dowari. Officials tracked her through a three-day search after she kept moving to hide. "Authorities described the arrest as a significant milestone, noting that it marks the first time the Assam State GST Department has arrested an accused outside the state in connection with a tax fraud case."
Barman allegedly ran a network of shell entities to push fake invoices. She now sits in a West Bengal court awaiting transit remand to Guwahati. Investigators are looking for her brother, Surajit Barman. He is an alleged accomplice currently on the run. More arrests remain likely as the state digs deeper into this organized fraud network.
